The intensive practice before and during the season has been paying off. Audi Sport Team Phoenix is ranking among the best this year in terms of pit stops. Even before Martin Tomczyk from Audi Sport Team Phoenix bagged the DTM title early at Valencia Ernst Moser’s squad was again recognised for the quickest pit stop.
Hankook, the DTM’s exclusive tyre partner, treated the team based in the Eifel region to a round of beer for the most efficient pit stop at the eighth round at Oschersleben: a well- deserved reward for a great job!
It was already the second time that the team was recognised by Hankook. At its home round at the Nürburgring, Audi Sport Team Phoenix performed the quickest pit stop of the race on the Schaeffler Audi A4 DTM driven by Martin Tomczyk. The obligatory round of free beer was then dispensed at the next race, at Brands Hatch in the UK.
Speed, reliability, perfection – the excellent pit stops for tyre changes and refuelling were an essential factor on the team’s way towards the title win. So it comes as no surprise that in Hankook’s unofficial annual classification for the quickest pit stops Audi Sport Team Phoenix is ranking in first place prior to the Hockenheim finale.
When Phoenix Racing travels to Australia in February to compete in the famous Bathurst 12 Hours with two Audi R8 LMS cars this won’t be the team’s first overseas commitment. In 1999, the debut year of Ernst Moser’s squad, the team embarked on its first big journey after the end of the Super Touring Cup (STW) season. The destination: Macau.
