Mike Rockenfeller finished fifth in the second race of the DTM weekend of the Motorsport Festival hosted at the Lausitzring. Right from the start, the Phoenix driver improved his position. Audi Sport Team Phoenix opted to already do Rockenfeller’s pit stop and tyre change after the first lap. The strategy paid off: The German moved up from the eleventh starting place on the grid and finished within the best five drivers. Rockenfeller’s teammate, Loïc Duval, posted the fourth fastest lap of the race. After a couple of hard duels on track, the DTM rookie had to be content with eighteenth position in the end.
“I’m very happy with the weekend, especially with ‘Rocky’s’ performances. we were always running really well in the race and our strategies, plus ‘Rocky’s’ speed, put us in position five twice. Loïc shows with his fastest race laps that he’s able to do it, but he’s not delivering consistent performances yet. We will continue to work hard until Budapest.”
I think that on the whole we can be happy. We finished in the top five twice. In both races we advanced nicely. I’m already looking forward to Budapest. That’s a track I think is really cool. I’m hoping for us to be able to make another step forward.”
“For me, personally, it’s been another difficult weekend. I posted the fourth-fastest lap time today. But in total, all the things don’t fit together yet. In any case, I continue to be fully motivated and would like to battle for the top positions with the squad at Budapest already.”
