Bad luck strikes Phoenix Racing again
The Audi team from Meuspath suffered a number of setbacks in Hungary during the fourth of five Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup race weekends.

In first free practice around Hungaroring, Phoenix Racing lost the first of two Audi R8 LMS following a heavy impact in the barriers. Driver Niki Mayr-Melnhof remained uninjured.

As a result, all hopes rested on the second Phoenix duo. The Audi R8 LMS of series debutant Alessio Picariello and Nicolaj Møller Madsen appeared to have secured fifth place on the grid for the qualification race, but then some lap times were deleted because of exceeding track limits. The duo was left to rue what might have been and lined up in only twelfth place. In the one-hour sprint race, the Belgian-Danish pair worked their way up to ninth overall by the flag and in doing so won the Silver Cup classification.

All hopes of scoring a similar result in the main race were destroyed in the second corner of the first lap when Møller Madsen was barged off the track by a competitor and was forced to retire.
